Protect the Kimberley now!
Friends, our campaign to protect the unique Kimberley is gaining momentum but we need your help now more than ever before.
The WA Environment Minister has recently released plans for new marine parks in the Kimberley, but the Minister for Mining and Fisheries has refused to allow the parks to go ahead unless they also allow commercial fishing and oil drilling in the areas!
If the oil and gas and fishing industries get their way, 98% of the Kimberley waters will still remain open to damaging industries. We can’t let this happen!
The Kimberley has marine biodiversity values equal to the Great Barrier Reef and the area deserves the same level of protection and iconic status.
We need your urgent help to send a strong message to Premier Colin Barnett to protect the incredible Kimberley.
The WA Government must establish large network of marine sanctuaries in the Kimberley that provide real protection for its unique species, rather than leaving these areas vulnerable to overfishing and damaging industrial developments like the LNG processing hub proposed for the Kimberley coast.
To help you can:
- Sign the letter to the Premier and your local MP about the need for a network of large marine sanctuaries on the Kimberley coast at www.likenowhereelse.org.au.
- Help purchase an advertisement in the Premier’s local newspaper, calling on him to protect the Kimberley, by making a donation at www.givenow.com.au/ccwakimberleyappeal.
