CFMEU asks Abbott about fund

After being lectured and berated by Tony Abbott for two years and being
the subject of a witch-hunt in the form of a Royal Commission, the
Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU) now asks if the
same standards will be applied to political heavyweight Tony Abbott.

Harold Clough, previous CEO of Clough Constructions and Engineering has
admitted that he donated money to Abbott's fund.

The CFMEU Construction National Office has written to the Minister for
Workplace Relations, seeking information about how many other construction
companies had donated money to "Australians for Honest Politics".

National Secretary of the Construction Division, John Sutton said that the
Union was concerned to know if any other construction employers had donated
to the fund.

"Considering Tony Abbott's present position as Minister for Workplace
Relations, and his involvement in establishing a Royal Commission which
whitewashed building employers, we believe it is very important for the
community to know whether or not any other construction employers donated
to his fund", Mr Sutton said.

"If there is nothing to hide, the Minister should come clean about who
donated to the fund. We believe the Minister should also disclose what
promises or inducements were made to achieve these donations", Mr Sutton
said.

"If he continues to refuse to disclose the facts, then by Tony Abbott's own
standards some form of independent public inquiry is necessary.
