CP of Chile expresses support for Venezuela
The following is a message sent to the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Mr Hugo Chavez Frmas, on August 10 from the Communist Party of Chile. Dear friend and President, At this time when the people of Venezuela are preparing themselves to reaffirm your presidential mandate at the Referendum of next Sunday August 15, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Chile wishes to express to you its total solidarity and its opposition to the manoeuvres organised by internal and imperialist forces to frustrate the process of transformation that your government is carrying out. In doing this we are interpreting the convictions of our members, organised from north to the south of the country and those of an increasing number of our compatriots who have overcome the poison being spread about the Bolivarian process. The revolutionary, democratic and anti-imperialist measures that you are leading in Venezuela — with the support of a people becoming more and more organised in the framework of Bolivarian institutions — correspond to the national aspirations of the countries and peoples of Latin America. The political changes have allowed for the incorporation a new generation of leaders that has replaced the old oligarchy, which had submitted to the imperial powers and taken advantage of corruption. They are the ones who today are resisting the loss of their privileges and resorting to worthless methods. The economic clean-up, the nationalisation of PDVSA [Venezuela's state-owned oil company] and the elaboration of plans through "Missions" to take care of the urgent needs of the great majority, have opened the way to a new State — one in which the exerting of effective sovereignty restores the international prestige of its mother country. The process that you direct is placed to be a decisive factor in the integration of the economies of our peoples — an alternative to the FTAA [Free Trade Area of the Americas headed by the US] and other oppressive forms of dominion over our nations. The objectives of your government, the great works that have been achieved and those that are planned have their inspiration in common historical sources. They represent, in a new phase, the continuation of the fight of the Liberators of the 19th Century who — like Simsn Bolmvar, Martm, Sucre, San Martmn, O'Higgins, Artigas — advocated the independent development of our countries. The peoples of Latin America, who have known the solidarity of the Venezuelan people, have placed their hopes in the possibilities that your triumph in the Referendum will open up. From Chile we will continue expressing, our support and solidarity with the democratic and anti-imperialist process that the Bolivarian project that you head represents. The letter was signed by Jorge Insunza B of International Relations and General Secretary Guillermo Teillier.* * * Unofficial translation
