Death of Slobodan Milosevic

Slobodan Milosevic died on Saturday March 10, 2006 whilst still in illegal detention in the jail set up especially for him in The Hague. His "trial" before the International Court of imperialist revenge had been going on for four years.

The propaganda machine of the imperialist countries has gone into overdrive in a renewed campaign of vituperation of the President of Yugoslavia who had the courage to defend his country from being torn apart by separatist wars provoked, financed, armed and in every other way promoted by the Western powers.

Even in death Milosevic is accused. By dying before the "Court" could give its "judgement" he has denied his enemies the opportunity of bringing down a conviction for all the "crimes" that have been heaped upon him.

Milosevic had been ill for some time but the authorities consistently refused him proper medical treatment. Even in the final fortnight of his life he had been refused the request that he be transferred to Moscow for proper medical treatment.

The same authorities are now refusing the request of his family that an autopsy be carried out in Moscow rather than in some hospital whose doctors can be trusted to cover up the consequences of the systematic denial of proper medical treatment and the possibility that, having failed to cow him, the authorities decided that his death be hastened.

During the course of his trial, Milosevic had systematically and with great courage and an encyclopaedic knowledge of events, refuted the charges brought against him.

As time goes on, Milosevic will come to be seen as a hero and a martyr in the struggle against the criminal plots of imperialism which, for the time being, have torn apart the Republic of Yugoslavia and led to much of it being occupied by NATO armies.

The Guardian will carry an extended article on the imperialist destruction of Yugoslavia in its next issue.
