Belarus elections

Alexander Lukashenko was re-elected President of Belarus with 82.6 percent of the vote in elections on March 19. His nearest rival was the US-supported Alexander Milinkevich with six percent. The Central Electoral Commission reports that 92.6 percent of eligible voters took part in the election. International and domestic observers found the elections to be valid, free, open and transparent. Full analysis next week. More information: http://www.belarusembassy.org
