Lift the US blockade on Cuba
The Executive of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Australia (CPA) meeting in Sydney on October 20-21, 2007 renews its call for an immediate end to the inhumane US economic, financial, political and cultural blockade of socialist Cuba.
This is the longest blockade ever imposed on the people of any country and is attempting to starve the Cuban population into submission to the plans of the Bush Administration. It is genocidal in its intent and fits the 1948 Geneva Conventions’ definition of an act of genocide.
The United Nations General Assembly has denounced the blockade overwhelmingly time and time again. At every opportunity people around the world have called for the elimination of the US blockade. It has been supported by only the United States, Israel and, most recently, by Palau and the Marshall Islands.
The Executive of the Central Committee of the CPA calls on the US Government to lift the blockade on Cuba and that the Australian Government put pressure on the US to eliminate this act of political barbarism. We further demand that Australia’s representatives not seek to justify the attack on the sovereignty of Cuba and the well-being of its people by proposing an amendment of the sort that was introduced last year.
We stand with the Cuban delegation for the vote against the US blockade on Cuba to be heard at the UN General Assembly on the 30th October 2007. The CPA expresses its support to the people of Cuba and its government in their valiant struggle against the blockade and for their national sovereignty and self-determination.
