Statement by CPA Secretariat
The Communist Party condemns the collective punishment and murderous attacks on the Gaza Strip in which over 100 Palestinians were killed last week and into the weekend.
The actions of the Israeli government have made a mockery of the "peace process" to which it committed in words but, as in the past, always acts to sabotage. The Israeli government has never wanted peace. It continues to set its sights on the seizure of more and more Palestinian land and the building of more Israeli settlements towards the Zionist ambition of a ‘greater Israel’ by mercilessly trampling on the rights of the Palestinian people.
The world should at last be aroused to the real nature of the present state of Israel -- its undeviating warlike intentions towards all its Arab neighbours. Last year it invaded Lebanon, bringing death and destruction with bombing raids on civilian targets and Lebanon’s infrastructure.
Israel has for decades refused to abide by the decision of the United Nations Security Council that it return to it borders prior to its war in 1967. It is now building an enormous concrete racist apartheid wall to divide the people of Palestine from the people of Israel and to prevent the formation of a viable independent Palestinian state.
War and repression cannot win in the long run and a negotiated peace must come sooner rather than later.
