The Guardian 2 April, 2008
New Guardian Editor
For purely health reasons, Anna Pha has retired from her position as the Editor of The Guardian and has been replaced by Tom Pearson who has worked as a Guardian journalist for 19 years.
Anna Pha has been the Guardian Editor also for 19 years and in that time had built up a widely acclaimed reputation for her research and presentation of many feature articles on a wide range of topics, particularly in the field of economics. She has always been meticulous and exacting in her research and writings and maintained a consistent Marxist analysis in all that she wrote.
She authored a number of booklets published by the party such as How Super is Super?, ACTU Policies on Unemployment, Enterprise Bargaining, ENRON — Capitalism in a Nutshell, The "Failed States" Doctrine, Out of Their Mouths — Planning the New World Order, The Rush to Privatisation, and Award Stripping — the Government and Employer Agenda.
Before becoming a full-time worker for The Guardian Anna was a teacher and held a position on the Executive of the Victorian Trades Hall Council.
Anna Pha will continue to work full-time on The Guardian while recovering her health. Being Editor is a high-pressure responsibility; ensuring that articles are written, sub-edited, proofread and making sure that our newspaper meets the inexorable deadlines of publication.
She is also a Central Committee member and on the Secretariat of that body.
In accepting her resignation as Editor the CPA Central Committee expressed its sincere appreciation of Anna’s years as Guardian Editor.
Tom Pearson came from country north-west NSW where he was employed as a shearing shed worker, and worked in Sydney mostly in labouring jobs prior to becoming a member of the Guardian staff. He has played a key role in the weekly production of The Guardian and is familiar with all aspects of newspaper publication.
