Cuba and Russia begin
new stage of economic cooperation

The work of the 8th Session of the Cuba-Russia Intergovernmental Commission ended last week with the signing, by Ricardo Cabrisas, Cuban government minister, and Igor Levitin, Russian transport minister, of a document that opens a new stage in economic cooperation between the two countries.

In statements to the media at the Ministry of Foreign Investment and Economic Cooperation, Cabrisas noted that the document, which covers important agreements related to commerce, transport, civil aviation, informatics, nanoscience, health and culture, among others, coincides with the start of a period that, after several years of work, will make it possible to have closer economic ties, which both governments desire.

During the session, other documents signed include a protocol on discussions between Cuba’s Civil Aeronautics Institute and Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency, contributing to bilateral exchange in civil aviation, as well as two memorandums of understanding, one on transport and the other on boosting professional training in both countries in metrology.

"In summary, we are very satisfied, not only with the dialogue that took place over these days, but the participation of the business sector. There is much work to be done in an orderly and systematic way to make progress on concrete results," Cabrisas commented.
