Best wishes for the New Century

While we look forward to the 21st Century, the Coalition Government and
the big corporations are trying to turn the clock back to the 19th
Century.

All the rights and conditions won by hard struggle by the working class
during the century now ending, are under attack.

Public education, health care, railways, telecommunications, postal
services and even the provision of social security are being sold off or
outsourced to private enterprises.

Job security is being destroyed by part-time and casual work. The hours of
work for many are going up. Long shifts are replacing the 38-or 40-hour
week and penalty rates are being abolished.

The rights of Aborigines, migrants and women are being eroded. Our
environment is being destroyed in the ruthless drive for profits.

But Reith's "second wave" has been defeated for the time being and the
plans of the TNCs to impose their agenda on the world through the WTO have
also been set back.

Many trade unions and community organisations are fighting back. The
international co-operation of working people and their trade unions is
increasing.

The Communist Parties of all countries are an essential part of this fight-
back and the renewed struggle for the socialist alternative to capitalism
and imperialism. We say:

NO to world domination by capitalism!

NO to the policies of the TNCs!

NO to the destruction of the environment of our world!

Let's strengthen our Party and work with all other progressive forces for
peace, security, jobs, good conditions, democratic rights, the preservation
of the environment and for socialism.

Hannah Middleton — President
Peter Symon — General Secretary
Communist Party of Australia
