Mass protests organised for US presidential inauguration

"We are in the cusp of titanic struggles between labor-led, people's 
movements against the ultra-right and transnational corporations. The 
outcome will leave a mark for decades to come", said Sam Webb, National 
Chairman of the Communist Party of the USA (CPUSA). American communists 
held a meeting at the beginning of January to access the new political and 
economic developments in the country.

The CPUSA heartily supported and took an active part in preparing for the 
protest actions to be held on Inauguration Day, January 20, in Washington 
DC and across America.

The Supreme Court's selection of Bush as President does not mean that he is 
accepted as the legitimate President by everyone.

The Centre for Constitutional Rights (CCR) has long been involved in 
defending people's voting rights and the rights of Blacks and other 
minorities in the USA.

The Centre has been outraged by the massive disenfranchising of voters in 
Florida and around the country, which especially affected the Blacks and 
minorities.

The CCR Executive director Ron Daniels said: "... in the spirit of the 
Declaration of Independence, we endorse the idea of a Day of Resistance in 
Washington DC on January 20, Inauguration Day, to protest the installation 
of an illegitimate regime.

"The entire nation and the world must know that there are large numbers of 
people in this country who are dissatisfied with and do not accept the 
outcome of the flawed election.

"In this regard, we applaud the mobilisation of groups who are working to 
bring thousands of people to Washington, DC on January 20.

"Let a myriad of marches, demonstrations, rallies and vigils bloom on this 
historic day. We would also like to acknowledge the efforts of the Rev 
Jesse Jackson and the Black Leadership Forum who will be holding a major 
march and rally in Tallahassee, Florida on that day."
