Cuba warns: US aggressive and dangerous

The Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples has issued a
statement warning that the policies of the US Government are becoming more
and more aggressive and dangerous. The statement, dated June 17, reads:

Following September 11 which Cuba immediately condemned, President Bush
declared that those who would not support the United States in their war
against Afghanistan and whatever other punitive adventures they might carry
out, would be considered to be in favour of terrorism. Cuba publicly
declared its stand against terrorism, as well as the war that has already
resulted in the loss of thousands of innocent victims.

More recently, President Bush has made reference to a so-called "axis of
evil" which included North Korea, Iran and Iraq as terrorist countries.

Later, the US Department of State published and distributed throughout the
world, a list of countries, which it accuses of promoting terrorism. Cuba
has been included on this list.

Not long ago, an Under-Secretary of State made public declarations
expressing US government concern over information that Cuba is developing
biological weapons of war and passing this technology on to other terrorist
countries.

On May 20, President Bush delivered two speeches dealing with Cuba, one in
Washington and the other in Miami. In both, he was insulting, he lied and
he threatened our people. He promised to maintain and reinforce the
blockade until Cuba renounces socialism and submits to North American
interference.

Recently, on June 5, ... he announced US plan to launch preventive wars
throughout the world. He warned that US armed forces would be preparing for
unilateral and surprise military offensives. No mention whatsoever was or
has been made recently to the role of the United Nations in international
relations.

It is obvious that the US administration is working to mold public opinion
— both domestic and internationally — in order to carry out insane and
monstrous acts of war which could in fact endanger the entire planet. Cuba,
not because it is terrorist, but because it is independent and rebellious,
has not escaped the ire of this international police force.

On June 12 over nine million Cubans demonstrated in the streets in support
of the Revolution and to protest against the interventionist and
threatening manoeuvres of the US Government.

From June 15 to 18, all Cubans who wish to, will be able to participate in
a petition drive being carried out across the Island. Those who want to
will be able to sign a document proposing that our Constitution include a
clause re-affirming socialism as a non-negotiable aspect of the Cuban
system of government and prohibiting all forms of negotiation with a
foreign power when pressure, threats and aggressions are involved. [See
article below for results of petition.]

Today we are calling on our friends, we are warning our friends and all
honest and reasonable men and women of the world of the grave and imminent
danger that our country is facing.

We urge you to denounce this very serious situation. We ask that you use
all means at your disposal to inform both national and world public opinion
of this dangerous reality. This is the only way to detain the escalating
violence and injustice that is all around us, it is the only way to deter
the increasing threat.
