AMWU support for bushfire victims
Two Australian Manufacturing Workers Union (AMWU)
members lost their lives in the fires that have devastated Victoria and
a number more have lost family members or their homes.
Like the Australian community more broadly, AMWU members
have responded with great generosity and compassion with collections being
organised in worksites across the country.
In one workplace alone, 200 AMWU members at Mt Newman in
Western Australia raised $150,000.
The AMWU has donated $20 000 towards the victims of the
Victorian bushfires, as part of the $250 000 contribution by the ACTU.
The contribution is being made through the Red Cross Fund.
Members are encouraged to make individual donations or organise
collections at their workplace.
Donations to the Red Cross appeal can be made at www.redcross.org.au,
by phoning 1800 811 700, or at any Woolworths Supermarket or Commonwealth
Bank Branch.
