peer deep into the bowels

of your computer screen

lock onto the grid

make the highest bid

then scramble and tangle

fight and bite

claw and saw

rip and shit

your way to the top

yes, you – you who fiddled

while the world went bust

did you not see the flowers

had already fallen

from the frangipanni tree

and the grapes of your summer’s greed

had shriveled on the profit vine

and don’t bother to tell us

it isn’t your fault

that the homeless mother sits

now with her crying baby

in the derelict car at the end of your street

starving to death under the barren trees
