Resolution – Guatemala, PGT (Guatemalan Party of Labour)

This 11th Congress of the Communist Party of Australia (CPA) salutes the 60th anniversary of the formation of the Communist Party of Guatemala on September 28, 1949.

Since its formation, the PGT was an influential political force that gave leadership to both workers’ federations in Guatemala.

The Communist Party of Guatemala is considered to be one of the most persecuted parties in the world. Successive dictatorships in the country took the lives of the entire politburo and two general secretaries.

The party was involved in the underground struggle that ended with the signing of the peace accords on 29 December 1996.

Warmest greetings to all members of the Communist Party of Guatemala, PGT.
(The PGT was formerly known as the Communist Party of Guatemala)
