General Secretary on the road to recovery

Dear Comrades and Friends,

I would like to thank everyone for all the flowers, cards and other gifts and messages that I have received over the past few months. I am sure that all this encouragement and support has contributed to my recovery.

To recap: I was diagnosed with bowel cancer in October last year and undertook a course of chemo and radiation treatment which ended in February with a major operation.

I have been recovering from that operation ever since and am gradually regaining my strength. The specialists advise that all cancer has been eliminated and seem pleased with my progress. However, they have warned me that it might take up to six months for me to get back my usual energy and capacity.

My daily regime is to exercise and to gradually increase my fitness and regain muscle tone. Careful and gradual increases in physical activity are the order of the day. Diet and rest are also required to help me regain my strength.

I still tire easily and quickly but this will gradually get better. I have begun to work a little at my computer at home and have begun to have visitors.

At present it appears that I will be out of action until about July. If all goes to plan, I hope to start working, possibly part-time initially, in the Party headquarters around that time.
