Wimmer rocks Perth
Vinnie Molina
During his two-day visit to Perth from August 16-18 Comrade Carolus Wimmer rocked the city. Addressing a public meeting at the MUA Hall in North Fremantle on Thursday August 16, Carolus was welcomed by Chris Cain, the MUA state secretary who gave him a message of solidarity on behalf of the MUA.

Carolus Wimmer gave a well thought out and informative presentation to the enthusiastic meeting. Later the opportunity was taken by those attending to ask questions on Venezuela today and the upcoming presidential elections.
The public event was organised by the Perth branch of the CPA and attracted lots of interest by different groups who supported the event. The meeting was attended by a delegation from the Socialist Alliance, the Australia-Venezuela Solidarity Network, the RSP and trade unionists.
The Communist Party of Australia and the Communist Party of Venezuela issued a joint statement last week strengthening its international relations. Both parties support the Bolivarian revolution and its president Hugo Chávez. Hugo Chávez is also the presidential candidate of the CPV and all polls indicate his winning position in the upcoming elections of October 7. We wish the CPV and the Venezuelan people a great success in their struggle for self-determination and the deepening of the socialist path of the Bolivarian Revolution.

Included in his busy itinerary were visits to building sites organised by the CFMEU, where Carolus was able to directly address young workers on the site who responded enthusiastically by giving him a black hard hat, a symbol of union militancy. A joint meeting of the CFMEU/AMWU was also held at the CFMEU office in East Perth and was well attended by union officials and a delegation from the CFMEU Young Activists Committee (YAC). Finally he was invited by the organisers of the Latin American Film Festival to greet and meet the community in Perth.
Dr Carolus Wimmer continues his Australian tour until August 23 with organised visits to Adelaide, Melbourne and Canberra.
