Issue #1635      April 16, 2014

Palm Sunday Perth

In Perth about 700 people were in attendance and listened to speeches about the failure of the Liberal government and Tony Abbott’s policy towards people who come here to seek asylum.

People attended from a number of church groups, trade unions, political parties including the Greens, Labor Party and the Communist Party of Australia.

One of the speakers was a former refugee from Iran who spoke of the dehumanising treatment of being detained on Christmas Island.

Following the rally the assembled peace activists marched around the city with colourful banners and chants to bring the message of peace to the Sunday afternoon shoppers in the Perth CBD.
