Issue #1668      December 10, 2014

Season’s greetings to Guardian readers

On behalf of the Communist Party of Australia, we would like to pass on to all our readers best wishes for the holiday season and a happy new year in 2015.

2014 has been a tough year for workers and other exploited people in Australia. The plunder of public assets has continued. The war on trade unions is showing no let up and plans for the final theft of Aboriginal land are unfolding at a rapid pace. Jobs in the public and private sector are disappearing and cost of living pressures are taking their toll on Australian households. Public health and education are in the privatisers’ sights. The Abbott government’s stance on climate change is an embarrassment to thinking people and its treatment of refugees sickens and angers them. Government policy and the media’s poison have caused racism to rise.

The world has seen extreme right-wing forces strengthening their position; the growth of fascism cannot be ignored. The peace and anti-war movement must mobilise for the preservation of planet Earth.

In spite of this assault on basic rights and conditions built up over decades of struggle, people are fighting back. Next year will be a big one for the Communist Party of Australia as it continues to grapple with these multiple challenges. You are invited to join the CPA in this vital undertaking. The Guardian will be back fulfilling its role as educator, organiser and agitator in the many struggles ahead.

We would like to thank our readers for their support during the year and wish you good health, peace and success in your struggles in 2015.

Vinnie Molina – National President, CPA
