Protesters shut down Port Augusta

Hundreds of protesters blocked the Joy Baluch AM Bridge in Port Augusta last week. Participants were supporting ongoing efforts to “shut down Australia” in opposition to the federal government’s decision to stop funding services to Aboriginal communities.

The move has already led to the closure of communities in WA and homelands in SA are similarly threatened. Members of the Port Adelaide and West Adelaide branches of the CPA travelled to Port Augusta for the demonstration. They joined the vocal protest as it headed into town chanting “Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.”
