Issue #1691      July 1, 2015

Taking Issue – Andy Alcock

Stop supporting brutal suppression

The Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) has just knocked back the bid by West Papua to be a member of the group and has elevated Indonesia to be an associate.

This is an incredibly low betrayal of a people who have been occupied by the mass murdering criminals of the Indonesian military (TNI) for over 50 years.

How can the MSG elevate Indonesia and exclude West Papua?

The West Papuans are Melanesians – NOT Asians. Indonesia is Asian – NOT Melanesian.

Did the Indonesian generals threaten to invade the other Melanesian nations if they accepted West Papua into the group in the same manner that they did in Acheh, East Timor and parts of Indonesia itself – the usual genocide and gross human rights abuses. Or did they decide to bribe them? They have A levels in genocide, human rights abuses and corruption.

This betrayal means that the West Papuans have to continue to suffer genocide at the hands of the TNI – the largest force for terrorism and fascism in the SE Asian and the SW regions of the world.

Many would describe the Melanesian leaders who went along with the brazen action of the TNI as gutless wonders.

After 53 years of mass murder and barbarity, the West Papuans deserve better. They have suffered for far too long.

But the US wants West Papuan gold and copper. They are a big earner for the Indonesian government and Australian leaders, along with many others in the west, are too gutless to make a stand for human rights.

All people who truly believe in democracy, human decency, human rights and social justice and who abhor genocide, mass human rights violations and hateful racism must demonstrate against this very cruel and cowardly betrayal.

  • NO AID
  • NO TRADE
  • BOYCOTT INDONESIAN TOURISM
  • NO MILITARY COOPERATION WITH WITH INDONESIA

Until:

  • All TNI war criminals have been brought to justice
  • The TNI has been withdrawn from West Papua
  • All victims of the TNI brutality and corruption have been compensated

It is time that the US and its allies (puppets?) stopped supporting this terrorist and fascist regime.
