Issue #1726      April 13, 2016

Evanthia Sgouras

On Thursday April 7 Evanthia Sgouras a long time supporter of the CPA, mother of comrade Xanthoula, and grandmother of Joanna Mavrantonis, passed away at the age of 83 after a long battle with terminal disease.

Evanthia lived through the horrors of the Nazi occupation of Greece and the civil war that followed the British military intervention in the country. With her late husband, John Sgouras, a KKE member and a Resistance fighter, she shared all the struggles and aspirations of a life devoted to the liberation of working people from the barbarity of capitalism.

Ever since their migration to Australia, in 1968, members of her family joined the CPA and some remain party members today. Evanthia herself was always a staunch supporter and defender of the Party. In her loving memory the family donates $100 to the Press Fund. A full obituary will be published in the next issue.
