CPA New Year’s greeting

The Communist Party of Australia wishes comrades and friends a joyful holiday season and the very best in their struggles in the New Year. 2016 has been a challenging year. It ended with the passing of a towering figure in the history of our movement – Fidel Castro. It has also finished with some very troubling developments. The election of reactionary billionaire Donald Trump as president of the US raises additional concerns about peace in our region and the world. At home, the passage of the ABCC Bill warns us that 2017 will be a year of tense battles to defend workers’ rights from an emboldened class enemy. All around it would appear the capitalist agenda for these times of deepening crisis is advancing.

But these are also times of determination and resistance on the part of the people. The year closes with notable defeats for the imperialists in Syria. At home, the 55 sacked workers at CUB have rallied national support to regain their jobs, pay and conditions. They have shown the way and demonstrated the spirit that will be called upon again and again in 2017. The Party will be there in those struggles. We invite you to join the CPA in 2017 as it will be a momentous year in other ways. As well as promising to be a year of fighting back, it will be the centenary of the Great October Socialist Revolution in Russia and the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Australia. The CPA looks forward to a year of joint struggle and important victories in 2017.

Bob Briton – General Secretary

Vinnie Molina – President
