Journalism is not a crime!

Since April 30, 2017, Mesale Tolu has been held in custody in a Turkish prison as a journalist with a German and Turkish background.

In Turkey, more and more journalists are getting arrested on “suspicion of terrorism”. As did Mesale. In the middle of the night a specialised terrorism squad raided her flat. The officers were heavily armed and masked. At this point she was alone in the flat with her two and a half -year-old son.

They left a path of destruction and arrested her. She is accused of participating at a memorial ceremony held for Ivana Hoffmann, a German activist who was murdered during her assistance in fighting against the Islamic State in Rojava. Apart from that she is accused of paying her respect at the funerals of two communists which were killed by Istanbul police.

People who are fighting for fairness and freedom are getting killed! And people who are writing about it are marked as terrorists!
